Southern Sports Academy AFL Womens Program

Southern Sports Academy has joined forces with AFL NSW-ACT to deliver a new women’s football program.

Southern NSW AFL development manager, and Collingullie-Glenfield Park spearhead, Marc Geppert has been appointed head coach of the new program.

The talent identification, athletic, skill and personal development program is designed to provide a selection pathway for local athletes into the AFL NSW-ACT Youth Girls under 16 team.

That team will be selected from the NSW Academy Games, to be held in the Hunter region, in April.

Southern Sports Academy chief executive Mark Calverley believes the appointment of Geppert will ensure immediate and sustained success for the program.

“Marc has a great reputation in the region as a player, coach and administrator, and we are very excited to have him lead the AFLW program for the Southern Sports Academy,” Calverley said.

“His knowledge, experience, and player management skills will ensure that any athletes in our region with aspirations to play at the next level, will receive the very best chance to achieve those goals.”

Geppert said the appointment was a continuation of his role with the AFL NSW-ACT Female Academy last year and that he is happy to be on board again, this time in partnership with Southern Sports Academy.

Nominations are now being taken for the program and open trials are set for Monday evening, February 12 in Wagga.
